Road Woes Continue For SLU
The Billiken Mascot

The Saint Louis University basketball team has a new coach in Rick Majerus, but the Billikens have continued their struggles in road games dating back to last season under Brad Soderberg.

Not much went right on Wednesday night at Kent State. The Golden Flashes jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the first half, led by 27 at halftime and handed the Billikens an 81-40 defeat at the Memorial A & C Center.

Saint Louis (5-3) has now lost three consecutive road games this season — at Kent State, Missouri State and Pittsburgh — after losing 10 road games (not including the Atlantic 10 Tournament) last season.

The good news is the Billikens only have one more game on the road, Dec. 4 at Boston College, before we turn the calendar to 2008. But SLU will need to find a cure for its road woes if the Billikens want to compete in the A-10.

SLU trailed 42-15 at halftime on Wednesday.

The only bright spot of the first 20 minutes may have been the return to action by senior guard Danny Brown, who made his first appearance of the season after having knee surgery in April.

But Brown wasn’t able to spark the Billikens and SLU wasn't able to repeat its strong second-half performances from the Pacific and Missouri State games.

The Golden Flashes outscored the Billikens 39-25 in the second half.

Kent State (5-2) was picked to win the Mid-American Conference East Division after returned all five starters from a team that went 22-1 last season.

Junior guard Kevin Lisch and freshman guard Paul Eckerle led SLU with eight points apiece.

The Billikens return home for 1 p.m. game on Saturday against Long Beach State.
