Senior center Bryce Husak scored a team-high 15 points and the Billikens knocked down 14 3-pointers, including four from senior guard Dwayne Polk, to defeat George Washington 63-38 at Scottrade Center.
?"The biggest difference in this is that shots were falling,” Husak said. “We weren't tentative, we attacked them, we rebounded hard. Dwayne shot the ball really well tonight, and everyone just came with an edge. It was great tonight.”
With its second consecutive Atlantic 10 victory and third in four games, SLU improved to 14-10 overall and evened its conference mark at 5-5.
In the earlier meeting at GW, the Billikens made one of 19 3-point attempts. On Wednesday, they made 14 of 27 (51.9 percent) and were one made 3-pointer away from the school record for 3-pointers made.
Husak, the 7-footer, stepped out and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, his third and fourth of the season. Polk, who finished with 12 points, entered the game with five 3-pointers made this year and then knocked down four of his five attempts from beyond the arc.
Junior guard Kevin Lisch scored 11 points and made three 3-pointers. Senior guard Danny Brown (eight points) and freshman guard Paul Eckerle (six) each made two 3-pointers. Junior guard Tommie Liddell III (seven) made one 3-pointer.
Saint Louis held George Washington (6-14, 2-8) to 38 points and the Colonials shot 26.9 percent from the field (14 of 52) and 18.8 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (three of 16). SLU senior forward Luke Meyer had three steals.
"Bryce definitely got us off to a great start and got us all going,” Lisch said. “Our defensive game plan was pretty similar to last time. They only scored 49 points, but people don't remember that obviously because we only scored 20. We have a lot of confidence in our defense."
The Billikens now have a tough assignment with a game at Massachusetts on Sunday, Feb. 17. SLU beat UMass 71-59 on Feb. 2 as Lisch and Liddell led the way with 16 points apiece.
