The Saint Louis University basketball team had its fourth-highest scoring output of the season on Sunday afternoon at Massachusetts. But unlike previous games against Houston Baptist, Furman and La Salle, the Billikens would not pick up a victory for their effort.

Junior guard Kevin Lisch scored a game-high 25 points, matching his season high, but UMass was able to hold off a late SLU rally for an 88-77 victory in an Atlantic 10 Conference game.

Saint Louis, which had a two-game win streak snapped, fell to 14-11 overall and 5-6 in A-10 play. The 88 points allowed was the most in a game this season, topping the 81 points Kent State scored back in November.

Lisch matched his scoring output from the Xavier game by making seven of 12 shot attempts, including three 3-pointers, and knocked down eight of nine free throw attempts.

The rest of the starting lineup — junior guard Tommie Liddell III, senior forward Luke Meyer, senior center Bryce Husak and senior point guard Dwayne Polk — combined for just 14 points.

One positive for the Billikens was the play of senior guard Danny Brown and freshman guard Paul Eckerle off the bench.

Brown had season highs of 19 points and eight rebounds in 30 points. Eckerle tied his season high with 13 points in 31 minutes. Brown and Eckerle each made three 3-pointers.

SLU trailed 41-36 at halftime — which was more total points scored than in the 49-20 loss at George Washington — and was outscored 47-41 in the second half.

UMass (16-9, 5-6) was led by 21 points from Dante Milligan.

The Billikens host Fordham on Wednesday at Scottrade Center.
