According to the Belleville News-Democrat, Leverette has given a verbal commitment to coach Jay Harrington at Southwestern Illinois College.
"Coach Harrington has a lot of Division I contacts and so if I come in and play like I can, hopefully I will be able to play D-I in a couple of years,” Leverette told the News-Democrat. “That's my goal."
A strong 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard, Leverette established himself as one of the better players in downstate Illinois the last two seasons.
As a junior, Leverette averaged 13.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game as O’Fallon went 28-8 and finished second in Illinois Class AA.
This season Leverette averaged 16 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocked shots per game as the Panthers went 29-4. He led the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots.
In December, Leverette said he had a scholarship offer from Youngstown State and was attracting interest from Saint Louis University and Southern Illinois. But with those schools already signing similar players, it didn’t leave much opportunity for Leverette to find a home there.
Leverette’s move to SWIC could pay off. The junior college already has a few Division I prospects in the fold for next season and Leverette will give college coaches one more reason to visit Belleville, Ill., to watch the Blue Storm.
