A standout football and basketball player at Oak Lawn (Ill.) Richards High School, Shaun Pratl had to decide what sport he wanted to play in college before he could figure out where he wanted to go.

In September, Pratl decided to continue his basketball career in college rather than play football. Last week, Pratl then committed to play his hoops at Eastern Illinois.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward picked Eastern over scholarship offers from Boston University and Saint Louis University.

Pratl, whose father Ron played linebacker at Michigan, helped lead Richards to an 11-1 record during his junior football season, when he had 33 receptions for 690 yards and nine touchdowns.

On the basketball court, Pratl averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game as Richards went 29-4 and won the Illinois Class 4A championship a year ago.

In the title game against Zion-Benton, Pratl had 16 points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists in nearly 31 minutes.
