The NAIA school in St. Charles, Mo., announced Thompson's transfer with a press release on Thursday.
“I am really excited for a chance to coach Brett,” Soderberg said in the release. “I recruited him heavily while I was at Saint Louis University. He is a great kid and a skilled big man. He has an excellent basketball IQ and can score from the three-point line in. He is the perfect piece for what I already inherited at Lindenwood.”
Soderberg was announced as Lindenwood's head coach in May. He was the Billikens' coach from 2002 to 2007, where he compiled 80 wins and two trips to the NIT.
A 6-foot-10 center from Vienna, Ill., Thompson was considering Saint Louis U. when Soderberg was fired and made a verbal commitment to the Billikens a few weeks after Rick Majerus was hired as SLU's coach.
Thompson played in 30 games during the 2008-09 season, averaging 11.4 minutes per game and starting seven games. He averaged 2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He scored a high of eight points against Samford on Dec. 13 and grabbed eight rebounds against Savannah State on Dec. 6.
The post player shot 40 percent (22 of 55) from the field and 72 percent (13 of 18) from the free-throw line.
