ST. LOUIS — The three games of the 2010 Dr. Pepper Midwest All-Star Classic on Saturday at Harris-Stowe State University’s Emerson Performance Arena attracted some of the top basketball prospects from throughout the Midwest with more than 30 Division I signees on hand.

Up first on Saturday was a girls game that featured several strong performances as the East squad defeated the West behind a team-high 12 points from Gardner-Webb signee Jasmine Dale, who earned the game’s co-most valuable player honors.

Illinois State signee Alison Seberger scored 11 points in the victory, including three 3-pointers, while Illinois signee Centrese McGee and 6-foot-5 Middle Tennessee signee Stephanie Myers each added nine.

Louisville signee Antonita Slaughter and Minnesota signee Janelle Cannon scored eight points apiece, while Alabama signee Jasmine Robinson scored seven and 6-7 Western Michigan signee Andrea Kras added six. Purdue signee Dee Dee Williams scored three points.

Leading the West squad was Louisville signee Polly Harrington, who scored a game-high 18 points and shared co-most valuable player honors with Dale.

Saint Louis University signee Halee Castleman was impressive, scoring six of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to try to rally the West squad. Future Saint Louis U. teammate Jenna Mueller was one of the top post players in the game, scoring 11 points on five-of-eight shooting.

Syracuse signee Phylesha Bullard scored 11 points in the losing effort.

The second game of the day, billed as the “Unsigned Hype” game, saw what was supposed to be a group of all-stars from the Memphis area defeat the all-stars from Missouri 113-104.

Leading the “Memphis” all-stars was Bryton Hobbs from Maplewood-Richmond Heights in suburban St. Louis, who scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to earn co-most valuable player honors. Also impressive in the win was athletic 6-5 forward Rashaun Brown of Oakhaven High in Tennessee.

The local all-stars were led by Metro High’s Dwan Davis, who took home co-most valuable player honors, and guard Mylin Jordan, who recently helped Cardinal Ritter win the Missouri Class 3 championship.

The featured game of the day, dubbed the “East vs. West” game, featured 12 players who have already signed with Division I schools and wasn’t decided until the final seconds when the West squad pulled out a 115-112 victory.

Alabama signee Trevor Releford scored 14 of his team-high 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead the West to a comeback win and was named one of the co-most valuable players.

Also impressive for the victorious West team was Minnesota signee Austin Hollins (22 points on 10-of-14 shooting) and Detroit signee Frank Williams (21 points on nine-of-14 shooting).

Southern Illinois Edwardsville signee Mike Messer added 15 points, including 10 in the second half. Unsigned prospects Trey Starks (Springfield, MO., Hillcrest) and 6-10 center Andre Hilbert (Laquey, MO.) scored 11 points apiece.
